Our Founder's Story
A note from "Big Mama"
For as long as I can remember, I have had a heart for young people and a desire to make sure they knew they were loved, valued, and supported.
My own journey began as a teen mother, and through that experience I learned the importance of perseverance, compassion, and having a support system. Over the years, my home became a place where young people in my neighborhood could find comfort, safety, guidance, and encouragement.
I watched many young adults growing up in homes where parents were working hard to provide, but because of busy schedules, they often lacked the time, presence, and guidance they needed. Some were learning to navigate life largely on their own. Yet when they came to my home, they found something different—a place where they felt welcomed, cared for, and safe.
They affectionately called me "Big Mama," a name that represented the role I naturally stepped into: being a source of love, structure, wisdom, and support. I have always believed in the saying, "It takes a village to raise a child," and I wanted to be part of that village.
Compassionate Harbor Homes was created from that same belief—that every young adult deserves a safe place to belong, someone who believes in their potential, and the support needed to build a successful future.
